West Haven Resident Named To College Softball Academic All-District Team

The West Haven High School graduate was recently named to the College Sports Communicators Division III Academic All-District Team.

WEST HAVEN, CT — West Haven’s Gianna Carrano, a sophomore on the Albertus Magnus College softball team, was recently named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division III Academic All-District Team, along with teammates Skylar Arent, of Ridgefield, and Annabelle Jabs, of East Hartland.

Carrano, a West Haven High School graduate, is an accounting major who made her first appearance on the CSC Academic All-District Team. This season, she batted .262 with two doubles, 10 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 44 games at second base.

Arent, who recently graduated with a degree in biology and health science, made the Academic All-District Team for the second time and advanced to the CSC All-America ballot.

Arent had a career year pitching and hitting while being named to the All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) second team as a pitcher. In the circle, she threw a career-high 118.1 innings, going 13-6 on the season with six complete games, 92 strikeouts with a 2.54 ERA. She ranked third in the GNAC in wins, third in ERA, fourth in shutouts with three and fifth in strikeouts.

In a 2-1 win over Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on April 13, Arent recorded her 200th career strikeout, which at the time made her the third person to accomplish the feat. She finished her career third all-time in strikeouts in program history with 231.

At the plate, Arent had a .308/.457/.427 slash line with nine doubles, 19 RBI and 32 runs. She also recorded her 100th career hit against Regis on April 27.

Jabs, a health science major, made her first appearance on the CSC Academic All-District Team. Jabs, who along with Arent made the All-GNAC second team as a pitcher, finished the season with a 10-7 record in 105 innings pitched.

She led the team with a career-high 105 strikeouts along with a 2.91 ERA. Her strikeouts ranked her fourth in the GNAC during the season, while her strikeouts per game (7.00) ranked her third. She was fifth in the conference in ERA. She also earned her 200th career strikeout in a game against Johnson and Wales on April 19.

In order to be eligible for both All-District and All-American consideration, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically, hold a 3.30 cumulative GPA or above and be a starter or important reserve for their respective teams.

The CSC Academic All-America team will be announced on June 17.
