Mark Twain Library In Redding Announces 3-Year Strategic Plan

Library officials emphasized the importance of public input in shaping the plan, which focuses on six key areas.

REDDING, CT — The Mark Twain Library has unveiled its 2025-2027 Strategic Plan, outlining initiatives aimed at enhancing services, expanding programming, and reinforcing its role as a cultural and educational hub for the community.

Library Director Erin Dummeyer emphasized the importance of public input in shaping the plan, which focuses on six key areas: space planning, expanded programming, improved book and resource access, technology upgrades, community engagement, and fiscal sustainability.

“We are grateful for all those who participated in our efforts and are confident that together, we’ve crafted a vision that reflects what Redding values most from their library: discovery, enrichment, and connection,” Dummeyer said.

The plan was developed with support from the Connecticut Library Consortium’s Strategic Planning Cohort and incorporated feedback from public meetings, individual interviews, and a community “Dream With Us” initiative.

In addition to long-term goals, the library has already begun implementing parts of the plan, including redesigning staff spaces, expanding youth programming, and preserving books from Mark Twain’s founding collection.

Library Board President Sheila Corr said the initiative aligns with the library’s historical mission.

“We’re excited to embark on this journey with our neighbors, ensuring that the library continues to be the cultural crossroads of our town,” Corr said in a news release.

Mark Twain founded the library in Redding, where he spent the final years of his life, donating books from his personal collection and raising funds for its creation. The strategic plan aims to honor that legacy while evolving to meet the needs of the modern community.
