Murphy Stops at Easton Library Along Tour of CT Towns

U.S Sen. Chris Murphy (D) made a stop at Easton Public Library Friday morning as part of a tour of 169 towns in 169 days.

"I was in New Canaan this morning with the town historian and toured this fantastic studio of John Rogers, a famous sculptor," Murphy said.

After Easton Public Library Dir. Bernadette Baldino showed the senator around with library, Murphy was off to a lunch with executives at GE in Fairfield.

During his statewide tour, Murphy plans to see some towns multiple times.

"I'm trying to visit historical sites, schools and town greens," Murphy said. "I'm learning more about the rich history of the state. There's always more to learn."

Ron Kowalski, Easton's Democratic Registrar of Voters, came to the library to see the senator, along with Easton residents David Katz and Dave and Susanne Smith.

Murphy saw an active children's area, an art gallery on display in the Community Room and learned about the library's sizable collections of DVDs and eBooks.

Kowalski told Murphy how Easton's library used to be housed in the basement of town hall before residents approved construction of a new building at 691 Morehouse Road by only 15 votes in 1994.

Baldino showed Murphy a framed photo of the late Anne Lindquist and said, "She was the driving force behind the scenes to get this built."

Beneath the photo, names of residents who won the Anne Lindquist Spirit Award are on display.

Baldino said, "This is to keep her memory alive and remind people that one person can make a difference."
