Weston EMT Honored With Inaugural Gridley Award For Community Service
A Weston EMT received the first Gridley Service Award for her volunteer work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

WESTON, CT — Weston EMT and crew chief Elena Moffly was honored with the inaugural Phyllis McHattie Gridley Service Award at the Building Hope Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Gala on May 4, recognizing her significant contributions to community service through Weston Volunteer EMS.
Moffly, who joined Weston EMS in 2016, was recognized for her extraordinary efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which she responded to nearly half of the town’s more than 1,000 emergency calls. Her dedication during that period, often working alone, was described as a "herculean task" by the organization.
The Gridley Award honors the legacy of Phyllis McHattie Gridley, a nurse and hospital administrator who devoted her life to helping others after raising six children. Moffly is the first recipient of the award.

In addition to her pandemic response efforts, Moffly received the Cardiac Arrest Save Unit Citation in 2023 from the Weston Volunteer Fire Department. She also plays a key logistical role within the EMS unit, overseeing the procurement of medical supplies.
Outside of EMS, Moffly works as business manager and executive management at Moffly Media alongside her husband, Jonathan. The couple lives in Weston with their five children. A licensed private pilot for more than a decade, Moffly is also a member of the Flying 20 Club based at Danbury Municipal Airport and enjoys golfing in her spare time.
