M&T Bank Confirms Supermarket Branch Closing In Wilton
M&T supermarket branch closings have been announced.

WILTON, CT — Officials at M&T Bank Friday confirmed the springtime closing of a supermarket branch in Wilton.

- Hamden Stop & Shop, 2331 Dixwell Ave.
- The Dock Stop & Shop, 200 East Main St., Stratford
- Simsbury Stop & Shop 489 Bushy Hill Road
- Rockville Stop & Shop, 50 Windsorville Road, Vernon
Proposed April 30 closings:
- Milford Stop & Shop, 1364 East Town Road
- Wilton Center Stop & Shop, 5 River Road, Wilton
- Brookside Stop & Shop, 4531 Main St., Bridgeport
- Greens Farms Stop & Shop, 1790 Post Road East, Westport
The Waterbury Stop & Shop Branch at 410 Reidville Drive and the Torrington Stop & Shop at 931 Torringford Street will be impacted but M&T has leases for new branch locations in both Waterbury and Torrington, Bank officials said.

M&T released the following statement:
"As the needs of our customers continue to evolve, we are committed to adapting our branch network to best serve our communities. Our dedication to our colleagues, customers and communities in Connecticut remains unwavering, and we have every confidence that by investing in new branches, we will deliver best-in-class advice and guidance that more closely aligns with the needs of those we serve."
M&T had announced it would be winding down our banking service in certain Stop & Shop location in Connecticut.
The bank intends to put stand-alone ATMs in the impacted Stop & Shop locations, officials said.
Said bank officials, "We regularly review our branch network and assess it against several factors to determine where our ability to provide best-in-class advice and guidance most closely aligns with the needs of our communities. We are working hard to increase the number of individual, stand-alone and full service branches in the state."
For example, officials said, the Torrington and Waterbury Stop and Shop locations already have the new leases in new stand-alone spaces.
"We are prepared to work closely with every impacted customer to ensure a smooth transition and believe that by building new branches, we will be able to successfully retain our existing customer base and grow new customer relationships," officials said. "We remain steadfast in our commitment to retaining the best talent and always prioritize offering employees impacted by branch closures with alternative employment opportunities. We remain committed to our colleagues, customers, and communities in Connecticut, and will continue to invest where we have a significant customer base and/or outsized growth opportunity."
