Board of Ed. to Fill Vacant Seat Tonight
What you should know today, Thurs., Oct. 13, 2011.

1. The Board of Education has called a special meeting to be held Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the board's conference room at L.P. Wilson. The board will take action on the replacement of former democratic board member Lucille Brown, whose resignation was officially accepted at the board's September 20 meeting.
2. Based on the democrats' candidate slate, Darlene Klase will be nominated to fill Brown's spot on the board, the democrats' final open spot. Klase currently works for the University of Connecticut's School of Social work within its partnership with the Connecticut Department of Social Services.
3. Richard O'Reilly was announced as the replacement for former board vice president and democrat Christopher McAuliffe at the board's September 20 meeting.

4. On this day in history, 1792, the cornerstone of what would become the White House was laid in the nation's newly-created captial city.
5. Rain is expected to fall this morning, before temperatures peak in the upper 60's. Showers will likely continue tonight, and a relatively warm low of 60ºF is expected, according to National Weather Service reports.
