Grimaldi, Laufer, Mitchell: Recent Death Notices From Windsor

Condolences are extended to the families and friends of those who have recently died.

WINDSOR, CT — Here are some recent death notices from Windsor.

Albert Grimaldi, 93, beloved husband of Martha (LeVasseur), passed away on May 20, 2025. He entered the U.S. Air Force after graduating high school, and spent four years in the Air Weather Service during the Korean War. After proudly serving his country, he attended the University of Connecticut, earning his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and his master’s degree in computer science. He spent 31 years at Hamilton Standard, retiring in 1991 as a Senior Experimental Engineer. His most memorable work was spent working on the Apollo manned lunar program; specifically, the portable life support system, where he contributed to the success of astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin’s journey to the moon and landings on the lunar surface. While working on the Apollo program, he received numerous awards, including the NASA Manned Flight Awareness Award and the Silver Snoopy Award.

Virginia (Walker) Laufer, 85, of Glastonbury, formerly of Windsor, passed away on May 22, 2025, surrounded by her family. Affectionately known as Ginny by her friends and Grammy by her family, she was an administrator with the State of Connecticut Board of Education for many years. Ginny met the love of her life, Tom Laufer, in his hometown of Bridgeport. She and Tom, or Poppy, spent nearly every day together through their 56 years of marriage until he passed away in 2013. In the years that followed her retirement, she traveled the world with family and friends. She also passed down a dry wit about the world that people remembered and will be missed.

Marjorie Hycinth Mitchell, 90, late of Windsor and Harbour View, Kingston, Jamaica, died peacefully at home on May 14, 2025. Known as Madge to family and friends, she was married to the late Dennis G. Mitchell for 65 years before he predeceased her in 2022. Marjorie operated several businesses in Kingston before joining her husband as a civilian employee at the .S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. They migrated to the U.S. in 1983, and settled in Windsor, where again, her home became the center for family and friends. Marjorie started a new career in health care and was employed at Mediplex of Wethersfield and Kimberly Hall Nursing Home for many years until her retirement.
