Windsor Center Prepares for Super Saturday

In anticipation of fall's foliage covering the town green, Windsor Center will be buzzing Saturday, littered with folks and festivities throughout the day.

Whether a resident is chili connoisseur, shopaholic or volunteer enthusiast, there will be something to enjoy.

The festivities will kick off at 9 a.m. with the Windsor Lions Club's Arts and Crafts Fair and Grace Episcopal Church's Rummage and Bake Sale.

While the crafts fair will offer a variety of original items from vendors throughout the area, the rummage and bake sale will provide patrons with an opportunity to shop for items that range from the gently-used to jewelry and higher end items sold in the boutique.

Apple cider and cheese will also be sold.

The fair and sale's commencement will be followed by the Chili Challenge and the Kiwanis Canoe Race.

While the canoe race bears the Kiwanis Club's name, the race's outcome will be determined by those in attendance. The canoes have been sponsored by various civic organizations and churches in town, who will be on the green Saturday collecting non-perishable foods and monetary donations for the Windsor Food Bank. How much each organization collects determines how far their boat will travel.

The Chili Challenge is a true staple of autumn in Windsor. With various booths serving up homemade chili (including a booth run by the Windsor Democrats, and one run by the Windsor Republicans), patrons can pay $1 per sample as each dish is tasted and then voted on. 

Prizes will be awarded for best chili, best booth showmanship and people's choice.

The following a schedule of events:

9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Grace Episcopal Rummage and Bake Sale

9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Lions Club Arts and Crafts Show

11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Chili Challenge

11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Kiwanis Canoe Race
