
Eight Windsor High School students are the proud recipients of Connecticut’s Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America (FCCLA) STAR awards and scholarships.
FCCLA is a national nonprofit career and technical student organization for high school students in Family and Consumer Sciences education, according to the organization's Web site.
Following a fierce culinary competition at the Lincoln Culinary Institute in Hartford, Windsor students - led by teacher Kathleen Taranto - came away with the following awards, according to Windsor Public Schools:
- Gold Medal in the category of Garde Manger (the art of vegetable and fruit carving) to 12th grader Josh Groshel;
- Gold Medal in the category of Garde Manger (the art of vegetable and fruit carving) to 12th grader William Danso;
- Gold Medal in the category of Occupational Cakes to 12th grader Sydney Lane;
- Silver Medal in the category of Comprehensive Cakes to 10th grader Tina Vu Vothanh;
- Silver Medal for Culinary Arts to the team of 12th grader Liam Foreman, 12th grader Ricky Fullana, 12th grader Davia Johnson;
- Bronze Medal in the category of Food Innovations to 12th grader Malcolm Watts;
- (tie) 1st Place Scholarship Recipients /$2,000 scholarship to the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) to 12th grader Liam Foreman and 12th grader Ricky Fullana; and
- 3rd Place Scholarship Recipient /$500 scholarship to Johnson & Wales to 12th grader Davia Johnson.
