Home visits between school staff and families are a proven family engagement strategy that improves student achievement, attendance, and behavior. Our school community has adopted the Parent Teacher Home Visits model (pthvp.org), and to bring attention to this high-impact practice, we are launching our first PTHV Week. It will run from September 19-24, 2022, (however Home Visits will run through the end of October). During the week, WPS school team members will conduct brief, voluntary visits with families. It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the most important adults in a child’s life to meet, build trust with one another, and share their hopes and dreams for the child.
During PTHV Week, we’ll also have opportunities to celebrate school staff and families who prioritize home visits. We’ll also work to generate awareness of the benefits of home visits throughout our entire community. Our PTHV Week observance is part of a broader nationwide celebration, spearheaded by the National Parent Teacher Home Visits organization as part of its 25th anniversary.
