Members of Windsor's observed the coming of a new year and the first full day of Rosh Hashanah Thursday, casting away their sins in a symbolic ceremony led by Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz on the banks of the Farmington River. During the ritual, which is called Tashlich (pronounced TAHSH-lick), members and friends of the synagogue tossed bread, symbolizing their sins, into the river. The ceremony was held following morning services at the synagogue. Rosh Hashanah began at sunset on Wed., Sept. 28. The holiday marks the beginning of the High Holy Days, which concludes with Yom Kippur (October 7, 2011), the Day of Atonement.
