Windsor's Wreaths Across America Ceremony
Community Gathers to Honor Veterans and Place Wreaths
Thanks to everyone who attended Windsor’s 15th Wreaths Across America ceremony on Saturday, December 14 in the Windsor Veterans Memorial Ceremony. Carmon Community Funeral Homes hosted this annual event with the assistance of Windsor’s American Legion Gray-Dickenson Post #59. The annual event featured a color guard, comments from Chaplain Steve Thiel from 103rd ANG base, the National Anthem sung by Windsor High School senior Alex Inyatkin, and the playing of Taps by Fred Miodowski, followed by laying of a wreath on every veteran’s grave.
More than 1,600 wreaths were placed, purchased by veterans families and members of the Windsor-area community, including 800 wreaths provided by Art Sladyk and American Post #133 of South Windsor. In addition, Kaman Aerospace Corp. generously donated $5,000 for the purchase of wreaths and others, including Amazon, contributed major funding as well.
Wreaths were laid by community members and by volunteers from Windsor Scouts Troops 149 and 1149, the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department, Kaman Aerospace Corp., and Amazon, among others.
