Bridge Replacement Work To Create Detours On Route 191 In Broad Brook
Replacement of the Route 191 bridge over the Scantic River will necessitate closure of a segment of the roadway for about six weeks.

BROAD BROOK, CT — A segment of Route 191 in the Broad Brook section of East Windsor will be closed due to bridge replacement work, and detours will be established.
Beginning Aug. 5, weather permitting, and continuing through Sept. 23, the segment of Route 191 at Mahoney and Old Ellington roads, known locally as Mill Street, will be closed by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT). Northbound traffic will be detoured onto Route 5 north, then right onto Route 140 east. Southbound traffic will be detoured onto Route 140 west, then left onto Route 5 south.
The bridge over the Scantic River is being replaced with a steel beam, reinforced cast in place concrete deck superstructure on top of precast abutment stems that rest on cast in place footings with deep foundations. Additionally, the road profile will be raised about four feet, according to the DOT.
