Lockdown At Windsor Locks Schools Lifted After Nearby Police Activity

Authorities confirmed the situation was not criminal in nature and did not pose a danger to the public.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A lockdown at South Elementary School and Windsor Locks High School was lifted Tuesday afternoon following police activity in a wooded area near the two schools.

Police said both buildings were placed in a secure status around 2 p.m. out of an abundance of caution, meaning no one was allowed to enter or exit during that time. Officers later confirmed the situation was not criminal in nature and did not pose a threat to the public.

According to Lt. Paul Cherniack of the Windsor Locks Police Department, the incident involved an individual experiencing a behavioral health emergency. Police said the person is not connected to the school community.

Officers located the individual and transported them to a hospital for treatment. The lockdown was lifted once the situation was resolved, police said.
