Community Steps Up For Family After Deadly Truck Accident

The East Windsor community is rallying to support the family after the man was pinned beneath a tractor-trailer while working on his truck.

EAST WINDSOR, CT — The East Windsor community is stepping up to support the family of a longtime local resident who was killed earlier this week in a tragic workplace accident.

The man was later identified as William “Bill” Hastings, 69, of East Windsor. According to information shared by his family, Hastings was killed Tuesday evening after becoming pinned beneath a tractor-trailer. Police have said the incident remains under investigation and that OSHA has been notified.

In the days since his death, Hastings’ family has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses. Loved ones said Hastings spent more than 40 years working in the car carrier business and was known for his careful and diligent approach to his work.

“He was a careful, mindful person who would have never put his life at risk and knew of the dangers of working on trucks,” family members wrote on the GoFundMe page. “We are certain he took all safety precautions; somehow, something just went wrong.”

Friends, coworkers, and community members have shared messages of support and contributed to the fundraiser as the family grieves his sudden loss.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 15, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. Funeral services will be private.
