Crosswalk Between East Windsor Town Hall And Elementary School Painted
The new colorful design augments the formerly drab walkway, which organizers hope is the first step to its increased and safer usage.

BROAD BROOK, CT — Recent safety concerns about lack of use of the crosswalk between Town Hall and Broad Brook Elementary School prompted action by dozens of local community members, spearheaded by the East Windsor Arts and Culture Commission.
On Saturday afternoon, volunteers ranging from schoolchildren to senior citizens, from police officers to principal Laura Foxx, made the drab brick walkway come to life during Community Paint Day. Each brick across Rye Street was painted in a "random colorful non-pattern," as discussed at the commission's Oct. 8 meeting.
The crosswalk is now blooming with shades of blue, orange, purple, yellow, red and green. It is augmented with a highly-visible lighted sign.

Rye Street was closed by police for several hours at Old Ellington Road and Main Street during the event.
Upon the conclusion of painting, organizers posted a heartfelt thank-you note on social media. It named donor Noreen Farmer as "our fairy godmother," and thanked generous contributors such as Dunkin' and Applebrook Farms.

The note concluded with "a huge THANK YOU to the dozens of community members who showed up to paint, especially the children. YOU DID A GREAT JOB!"
