East Windsor Native, SJU Swimmer Wins 2 Regional Awards This Week

Jake Wyse of East Windsor, who swims for Saint Joseph's University, was named "men's athlete of the week" and "men's swimmer of the week."

EAST WINDSOR, CT — An East Windsor native and collegiate swimmer was named "men's swimmer of the week" by a regional organization on Wednesday — and two days later, he was named "men's athlete of the week" by another.

Jake Wyse of East Windsor earned the first honor from the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA), and the second from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNA), the school said in a news release.

Wyse swims for Saint Joseph's University in West Hartford, where he is a senior studying biology, according to SJU officials.

Last Friday, Wyse won SJU's Men's Blue Jay Pentathlon for the third year in a row, school officials said.

He placed first in four events: the men's 100 backstroke (with a time of 1:00.38), the 100 breaststroke (1:05.77), the 100 freestyle (53.89) and the 100 individual medley (1:02.99). With his fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:00.75), Wyse's total time was 5:03.78.

Wyse has previously won athlete of the week from GNAC, and the conference also named him "rookie of the year" for his 2018-19 season, school officials said.

The nod from NEISDA is the second for the Saint Joseph's University men's swim team, as Wyse's fellow senior captain Brendan Lynch earned the award earlier this month, the school said.
