WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A 3-year-old girl suffered burns to her face and arms during an incident involving a small tabletop fire pit Sunday night, according to police.

Emergency responders were called to a home on Tracy Circle around 8 p.m. with a report of a child that incurred burns from a fire pit. Upon arrival, the child's mother was holding her, while her father was trying to keep his daughter calm, Lt. Paul Cherniack said.

The father explained while lighting the pit, an unexpected gust of wind pushed the fire toward his daughter nearby. She sustained first- and second-degree burns to her face, chest and arms, but her airway was not affected. East Windsor paramedics took her and her parents to Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, Cherniack said.
