WINDSOR LOCKS-EAST WINDSOR, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire. More great feats will be noted as they are received in the coming weeks.
Hofstra University, Hempstead NY
- Cloudy skies did not stop more than 230 Hofstra students from going out into the community early one April morning to garden at neighboring homes. The University's annual Pride and Plant event connects students with local homeowners, who need help with yard work and planting. Among the participating students was Sean Kupstas of East Windsor, who is studying filmmaking. The beautification event, which started in 2017, was sponsored by Hofstra University's Office of Commuting Student Services and Community Outreach.
Stonehill College, Easton MA

- Samantha Gough, a member of Stonehill College's Class of 2025 from Windsor Locks, was recently honored at the institution's Student Life Awards, held Sunday, April 27, 2025. This program celebrates campus community members for their outstanding contributions to the betterment of Stonehill.
Westfield State University, Westfield MA
- Makena Shea of Windsor Locks was recently elected to membership into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Shea is among approximately 20,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.
