EAST WINDSOR, CT — A large barn fire shut down several roads overnight as firefighters worked to contain the blaze, according to a post on the Broad Brook Fire Department's social media page.

Tolland County Dispatch received the first call around 1:20 a.m. reporting a barn fire at 365 North Road. Broad Brook Fire Department said it was dispatched one minute later and arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames.

Three additional tankers were requested, bringing in resources from Somers, Crystal Lake, and Vernon. Main Street at Wesley Road and Route 140 between Harrington and Melrose Roads were temporarily closed, officials said.

The main body of fire was knocked down within 30 minutes, officials said. Tankers were released about 45 minutes after the first engine arrived, and crews remained on scene for roughly 90 minutes, conducting overhaul and extinguishing hotspots.

No injuries were reported. Because of freezing temperatures, the state's department of transportation responded to sand and salt the area while crews wrapped up.

The East Windsor Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined, officials said.
