Last Day Approaching For East Windsor Gourmet Coffee House

EAST WINDSOR, CT — Friday will mark the last day of business for a gourmet coffee house which has been located in Sofia's Plaza under two different incarnations for the past 15 years.

Baker and the Brew, a specialty shop offering breakfast and lunch sandwiches on top of gourmet coffees, hot drinks and smoothies, had originally announced its intention to close in February. However, owner Patricia Alfarone said in late winter she had reached agreement with the plaza owners to remain open through May while a search was underway for someone to purchase the business.

"I am retiring and starting a new chapter of my life and would love for Baker and the Brew to continue to be a part of the community," Alfarone wrote on social media. "Thank you all for your support through the years and these last few months."

The shop originally opened in the late 2000s as a franchise of California-based It's a Grind. In preparation for the closing, the shop is selling off their inventory, with coffee flavorings going for $5 a bottle and cases of soda for $4 apiece.
