Man, 19, Killed In Fiery Crash On I-91 In East Windsor, ID Released: State PD

The identity of the victim was released by state police on Tuesday.

EAST WINDSOR, CT — Owen Thomas Contreras, 19, of Silkey Heights Drive in North Granby, was killed in a two-vehicle fiery crash on Interstate 91 in East Windsor, state police said Wednesday.

The accident occurred just before midnight on Sunday. State police said Contreras was driving on I-91 southbound, prior to Exit 44. A Salem, North Carolina man was driving a vehicle on I-91 southbound, prior to Exit 44.

"For an unknown reason, Vehicle #1 and Vehicle #2 made contact in the right lane, subsequently causing a fire to engulf both Vehicle #1 and Vehicle #2," state police said in an accident summary. "Vehicle #1 came to an uncontrolled final rest facing south in the gore of the Exit 44 off-ramp."

"Vehicle #2 came to uncontrolled final rest facing southwest in the right lane of the highway and the gore area of the Exit 44 off-ramp," state police said. "Operator #2 was transported to Hartford Hospital for an evaluation of minor injuries. Operator #1 sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased on scene."

The accident investigation is active and ongoing.
