Man Sentenced For 2022 Beating Of Elderly Woman In Windsor Locks: PD
A 70-year-old woman was beaten in an unprovoked attack in Oct. 2022 on Old County Road in Windsor Locks.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to prison in connection with the unprovoked beating of an elderly woman in Windsor Locks in 2022.
In March, Alexander L. Russell was found guilty by a jury of first-degree assault on an elderly victim. He was sentenced April 29 to nine years in prison, followed by six years of special parole, according to Connecticut judicial records. He has been incarcerated since his arrest at the Garner Correctional Institution in Newtown, according to Department of Correction records.
Around 9:54 a.m. on Oct. 6, 2022, a 70-year-old woman from Windsor Locks was exercise walking on Old County Road when a man, later identified as Russell, ran up behind her and viciously struck her in the back of the head with a closed fist, causing her to fall to the ground. As she fell, she fractured some of her fingers, and lay helpless with a serious laceration to the back of her head, police said.

Police provided medical aid while other units, including a dog, canvassed the area for the attacker. A description was broadcast to other law enforcement agencies, and Russell was located and detained by state police troopers on their property on Schoephoester Road. Windsor Locks officers positively identified him as the assailant, police said.
Russell and the victim did not know each other, police added.
