Manchester Teen Charged in Fire That Killed Dog

The 19-year-old allegedly intentionally set a fire at a Windsor Locks home.

Amen-rah Gilbert has been charged with first-degree arson and is being held on a $1 million bond.

He is accused of using Duraflame logs to start a fire in a first floor bathroom inside 8 Pleasant St. in Windsor Locks shortly before midnight on July 2.

The residents were able to escape unharmed, but a dog did not make it out. Damage to the house was extensive and the residents lost all their possessions.

Gilbert said in an interview with police that he has been setting fires since he was 10 years old and because of it, was placed in the custody of the state Department of Children and Families. Gilbert told the detective that he has been to a program designed to get fire-starters to stop, but that it did not help.
