WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — Police and first responders had a busy 4-hour stretch Tuesday afternoon, responding to a pair of unrelated incidents involving injuries to 1-year-old children.

Around 3:16 p.m., a family using the pool at the Ramada By Wyndham on South Center Street noticed their 1-year-old child had apparently fallen into the water and was in distress. Adults went into the pool and rescued the child, who was taken to Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC) in Hartford, Lt. Paul Cherniack said.

The youngster was reported in stable condition, and investigation into the incident continues, Cherniack said.

Several hours later, around 7:20 p.m., a woman at a Dexter Road home noticed a discoloration on the foot of her family's dog. As she touched the canine's paw, the dog suddenly attacked a 1-year-old nearby, biting the child in the head area and causing lacerations and bleeding, Cherniack said.

The child was also taken to CCMC, and was reported in stable condition after receiving stitches for treatment of scalp wounds. Police quarantined the dog, and the investigation continues, Cherniack said.
