Teen Wanted In Shooting Death Of Windsor Locks Man Caught In Alabama

A Manchester teen accused of killing a Windsor Locks man has been extradited from Alabama and is facing a murder charge, police said.

MANCHESTER, CT — A teen suspect in a Manchester shooting that took the life of a Windsor Locks man was picked up in Alabama and returned to Connecticut to face murder and evidence tampering charges, police said.

Jordan Patterson, 24, of Windsor Locks, was killed in the May 20 incident and 16-year-old Manchester resident Zion Smith was arrested as part of the investigation.

Smith is being charged as an adult and, in addition to the murder and tampering charges, he has been cited for carrying a dangerous weapon, and the unlawful discharge of a firearm, according to an arrest report.

Smith was transported to the Hartford Juvenile Detention Center and was to be arraigned in court Thursday, police said.

The case unraveled after Patterson was located unresponsive in a running car early on May 20, casew records show. According to an incident report, at 3:56 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Irving Street and Woodland Street after they received a call about a vehicle idling on the side of the road with an unconscious driver inside.

Upon arrival, officers located a man, later identified as Patterson, in the driver’s seat with a single gunshot wound to the Torso. Officers and responding medical personnel immediately initiated life-saving measures, but despite those efforts, Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Following what police said was a "comprehensive and collaborative" investigation, detectives, in conjunction with local and federal authorities, an extraditable arrest warrant was obtained for Smith, according to an arrest report. He was then located in Alabama and brought back to Connecticut, according to an arrest report.
