Virtual Toy Drive Creator: East Windsor Star Student
We all know students who excel in academics, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one resident who is making an impact in East Windsor.

EAST WINDSOR, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Nicole Walker, who nominated Broderick, a senior at East Windsor High School.
Star local student’s name: Broderick

How do you know the star local student? I am his school counselor and advise clubs he is a part of.
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Broderick is a member of the LEO Club (Leadership, Experience, Opportunity) at East Windsor High School. LEO is one of Broderick's many commitments as he is also involved with track, jazz band, National Honor Society and student government. He is a true leader in our school and I am looking to have him recognized for a project he created during his sophomore year that he continued to run through his senior year. After the pandemic there were considerable challenges faced by families all over the world, and to aid in assisting the families in our community, Broderick created a virtual toy drive. He created a website using Smore and included an Amazon wishlist. Anyone who purchased gifts from the wishlist had the option of having the goods sent directly to our park and recreation department. Broderick utilized the LEO Club for the vehicle to spread the word to members of the community and promote the drive to our school community. Over the last three years, there have been over 300 toys purchased and donated to the park and recreation department to help with its annual drive to support families in our community with need for the holidays. I am including a link to his very first drive as a sample to what this looked like. https://www.smore.com/q9jx2. The initiative Broderick took to create this annual drive to serve a need in our community is noteworthy.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Broderick is an outstanding student and vastly concerned with the well-being of others around them. When he sees a need, he is always eager to find a solution.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Broderick.
