Delaware Organizations Join 'Clear The Shelters' Pet Adoption Event

Delaware Humane Association (DHA) and Delaware SPCA (DELSPCA), a statewide animal welfare organization with adoption centers in Wilmington, Rehoboth Beach, and Stanton/Christiana, are teaming up with shelters across the country to find loving homes for companion animals as part of NBC10 Philadelphia and Telemundo 62’s “Clear the Shelters.” This special nation-wide “Adopt & Donate” campaign officially runs from Tuesday, August 2 through Saturday, August 27.

To encourage potential adopters, all DHA and DELSPCA adoption center locations will feature two days, August 2 and August 27, during which all animal adoption fees will be half-off. Additionally, select animals across the shelter locations will have their adoption fees fully waived throughout the month of August. Future adopters can see which animals have their adoption fees waived by visiting delawarehumane.org and delspca.org.

All of DHA and DELSPCA’s adoptable animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworm (if of age) and FeLV/FIV, microchipped, and examined by a veterinarian. DHA and DELSPCA asks all adopters to please fill out an online adoption questionnaire before visiting to ensure the best match is made at: https://delawarehumane.org/adopt/how-to-adopt and https://www.delspca.org/adopt/adoption-process/.

“Adoptions have slowed down over this past summer. As a result, we have hundreds of animals currently sitting in our adoption centers, some of who have been waiting for months,” says Patrick Carroll, Chief Executive Officer of DHA. Carroll continues, “We are hopeful that through our participation in Clear the Shelters this August, families will not hesitate to come out and adopt!”

Delaware Humane Association and Delaware SPCA, along with participating animal shelters across the country, have helped over 20,000 animals find their forever homes since 2015 through Clear the Shelters.
