Wilmington’s Public Works Department has compiled the attached list of streets on which construction or, maintenance will occur over the next week by the City itself, or by either DelDOT, Delmarva Power, or private contractors. The attached information is for Monday, December 6 through Friday, December 10, 2021.

The City’s website contains a real-time map that is updated daily so you can follow any changes to the weekly schedule caused by weather or other construction-related delays. Public Works Commissioner Kelly Williams said every effort is made to compile the most accurate list each week of street projects that could affect your travel in the City the following week. She cautioned, however, that the time frames for the listed projects could be altered if they are delayed due to factors such as the weather.

Also, on March 1 the State of Delaware’s Department of Transportation (DelDOT) began a two-year reconstruction project to refurbish and resurface a portion of Interstate 95 that runs through the City of Wilmington. To know what is planned, when things will occur, and how all of it will affect your travels, you should  

  • Visit the DelDOT Restore the Corridor website often (daily if possible) and sign up for updates including text messages: restorethecorridor.com 
  • Download and share an informative Restore the Corridor Project Guide, available online here.
  • Call DelDOT with questions or concerns. The DelDOT Community Relations Office can be reached by dialing at 302.760.2080, or you can direct your questions to the DelDOT Transportation Management Center by dialing 302.659.4600. 

DelDOT has also announced that preparations for the upcoming transition to Stage 2 Construction will require closures of I-95 Northbound in Wilmington. During the closure of I-95 Northbound, motorists may take alternate routes I-495 or US 13 to their destination.

Dates (pending weather) and Location:

Monday, December 6 through Thursday, December 9, 2021:  Overnight Closures (9 PM to 5 AM) of I-95 Northbound from the I-495 split to the US 202 Interchange (Exit 8) and I-295 SB to I-95 NB ramp.

Access to I-95 Northbound from the City of Wilmington will be available via the 10th  Street/ Adams Street I-95 Northbound on ramp.

Friday, December 10 through Sunday, December 12, 2021: Weekend Closure (9 PM Friday to 7 AM Sunday) of I-95 Northbound from the I-495 split to the US 202 Interchange (Exit 8) and I-295 SB to I-95 Northbound ramp.

Access to I-95 Northbound from the City of Wilmington will be available via the 10th Street/ Adams Street I-95 Northbound on ramp. On Sunday morning, once the Delaware Avenue/Adams Street I-95 Northbound on ramp is re-opened, the 10th Street/Adams Street on ramp will briefly close for pavement striping.

Detours:
Motorists traveling to points north of Wilmington will be directed to I-495 Northbound.  Motorists traveling into Wilmington will use I-495 Northbound to US 13 Northbound.   Motorists traveling out of Wilmington will access I-95 Northbound via the 10th Street/Adams Street on ramp except for Sunday morning, when access will be via the Delaware Avenue/Adams Street on ramp.
