📰 News we're reading

1. Suspect arrested for late November shooting in Wilmington (wdel.com) — Wilmington police have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with a Thanksgiving night shooting that left a 19-year-old hospitalized in stable condition near West 7th and North Washington streets. Officers later stopped a vehicle on Miller Road, recovered two loaded handguns, and charged the suspect with first-degree assault, weapons offenses, and resisting arrest; he’s being held on secured bail.

2. Registration Deadline Jan. 21 for the 2026 Delaware Wetlands Conference (delaware.gov) — A major environmental conference is coming to Wilmington’s Riverfront Jan. 27–28, 2026, as DNREC hosts its largest-ever Delaware Wetlands Conference at the Chase Center. With more than 75 presentations, field trips, and professional credits available, early registration discounts run through Dec. 28, with late registration open until Jan. 21 while space lasts.

3. Delaware law firm exits downtown Wilmington for Class A space (delawarebusinesstimes.com) — A major Delaware law firm has left downtown Wilmington for a newer Class A office in the New Castle County suburbs, joining a broader shift of firms seeking modern space and avoiding the city wage tax. The move keeps the firm close to Wilmington’s courts while highlighting growing demand for high-end suburban offices and the challenges facing older downtown buildings.

4. Why Delmarva Power wants to tariff large energy users like data centers (delawareonline.com) — Delmarva Power is asking state regulators to approve a special tariff for massive energy users like data centers, aiming to shield regular customers from higher costs. While current proposals focus on Delaware City and Newark, any decision will affect Wilmington residents’ electric bills and the broader grid as data center development and AI-related power demand grow.
