Designed especially for beginners, this talk will explain what meditation is, why it works, and how to start a simple daily practice even with a busy schedule. You’ll learn practical “tools for inner peace” that help reduce stress, improve focus, and cultivate a more positive state of mind.

🚨 Urgent: Community members - Adopters and fosters are needed to save 13 dogs on the latest urgent list by today, 1/13. They all need to be adopted or have rescue commitment, and have to leave the shelter by today (or after spay/neuter.) If no one saves them, they will be euthanized due to being over capacity. Most of these dogs need homes outside of PG County. As of 1/13 AM: Up to 13 dogs still need adopters and fosters! Rescues are interested in helping and need fosters to save them. Check for updates at the Facebook links.
🐶&nbsp;Adopters: Please go to the shelter today between 11am and 7pm (arrive by 5:30pm or no later than 6pm)&nbsp;to meet and adopt urgent dogs.&nbsp;Adopters are able to meet 2 dogs and bring dogs for meet and greets. If anyone is going to adopt them, please comment on their pages in the linked album.
*In order to apply to adopt a “terrier mix”, you must provide two original documents with matching addresses as proof of residency outside of PG County (due to breed specific legislation.) 
🐶 Prospective fosters: Please apply to rescue partners, or with the shelter for certain dogs, to become a foster and save a life. Urgent dogs have to be&nbsp;fostered through a rescue, but certain dogs may be fostered through the shelter for this list. See the Friends' post for rescues seeking fosters for these dogs. Fostering is usually free with a rescue.&nbsp;Here are some of the rescues seeking fosters.

We'll explore the anatomy of a good joke, tricks of the trade, and delve into various comedic styles to suit different genres. Discover the secrets of creating a lighthearted atmosphere, captivating your audience, and transforming your writing from mundane to memorable with humor.
Your instructor: Nikki Frias has contributed to Pop Sugar, Forbes, The Daily Beast, and Boardroom. She is an author, writing coach and teacher specializing in helping people find their form of funny. Her book is titled “Does this Divorce Make Me Look Fat?” and she currently teaches comedy writing at The Writer’s Center, and improv at the Washington Improv Theatre. Her second book "Damn, you still single?" is expected to hit shelves later this year.

The Yards

Month-long event series that inspires, energizes, and celebrates personal growth!
Throughout January, The Yards is hosting themed workshops led by neighborhood retailers, each designed to spark new habits, uncover passions, and make your New Year goals feel fun and achievable. From journaling to fitness, vision boards to nutrition, this is your chance to explore something new right in your community.
Join us for rotating pop-ups and activities such as:
<ul><li>January 6, 6:30pm: Group run with Pacers with complimentary item from Playa Bowls</li><li>January 15, 6pm-7pm: A giveaway cart pop-up at District Winery with items to help kickstart your new years resolutions, along with a complimentary glass of wine for the first (30) guests.</li><li>January 20, 6:15pm: Grocery Tour with VIDA. Enhance your grocery shopping experience AND confidence! In this tour we will explore the aisles, uncover nutritious favorites, learn how to build a cart that supports your health goals, and enjoy some friendly challenges to test your knowledge. After the tour everyone is invited back to VIDA where we will have some lite bites and club information available, Nutrition, Personal Training, Sap and Studio programming.</li><li>January 21, 6pm-8pm: Vision Board Making with Steadfast Supply</li><li>January 22, 7:30pm-8:30pm: Heated Yoga with VIDA. Heated Yoga incorporates the flow and grace of many of VIDA’s other Vinyasa and Power classes. Students will benefit from a Hot Yoga class with increased depth in poses and strengthening benefits but at a soothing temperature of 90 degrees. All levels, including beginners, are welcome. This class appeals to any student looking to deepen a yoga practice.Smoothies and lite bites will be available after class.</li><li>January 28, 6pm: Planting and Goal Setting at Steadfast Supply</li><li>January 29, 5pm-6pm: Bullet Journalling workshop at Maman. All guests will recieve a complimentary glass of wine at this guided class.</li></ul>
Guests are encouraged to attend multiple sessions. Each week brings a new theme, new faces, and new opportunities to learn, connect, and grow. All classes are complimentary with RSVP and include special perks and in-store offers just for participants. Registration requires a refundable $15 hold for your spot, which will be returned upon check-in.
Not able to attend a workshop? No problem! You can still sip on specialty mocktails at participating Yards retailers all month long, perfect for kicking off Dry January and keeping those healthy habits strong.
