"At All Cost" Debuts June 28 And 29th At The Lake Worth Playhouse

Rashida Costa is an actress, playwright, author, and poet and the founder of Theater and All Things Dramatics. Costa is planning the launch of “At All Cost” this summer in Lake Worth, Florida “At All Cost" is a story about a black soldier’s journey, who was denied his GI Bill benefits, but still sought to make a way for himself and his family to prosper. It is a historical piece, set in 1945 after World War II surrounding life after the war of protagonist, Wray Edmond. Edmond purchases a casino after being denied the benefit of gaining access to home ownership, one he fully expected as a promised benefit of his GI Bill. As the production’s description states, “Imagine being ostracized because of the color of your skin. Blacks faced this nightmare and painful reality across the nation. Redlining was a common practice utilized to keep blacks from homeownership,” which as aforementioned is experienced by Edmond in the play’s storyline. Rashida Costa’s additional books include the children’s book, “The Little Wooden House,” an easy read-along and fun book, accompanied by beautiful illustrations, at the first to third grade reading level, as well as “Tommy and The Bumper Boat,” fascinated by bumper boats, Tommy longs for one, he is always full of surprises. Concluding our interview regarding Costa’s forthcoming theater production of “At All Cost” this June 28th, and 29th in Lake Worth, she discussed her motivation for this play, “I am motivated by the drive to tell this story in a manner that is engaging, while inviting the audience on a historical journey that represents the emotional world of the thoughts and experiences of soldiers of color, which oftentimes led them to their deepest fears and vulnerabilities. I wrote this play in an effort to assist in giving a voice to their experiences; to bring awareness to the pain they endured, the tears they had that were too weak to dry, and the blood and sweat that went undervalued.”
