OAK HILL, FL — The principal of a Volusia County charter school resigned this week after she sent $100,000 in school money to a scammer posing as Twitter owner Elon Musk, according to a report by NBC affiliate WESH.

Janet McGee, the principal of Burns Sci-Tech STEM school in Oak Hill, resigned Tuesday after school board members learned she paid the scammer the money in hopes of getting him to invest millions of dollars in the school, WESH reported.

"I love this school more than anything else. If it means your administration is going to stay, I'm turning in my resignation," McGee said at Tuesday's school board meeting, according to WESH.
