1 Charged With Grand Theft, Other Suspect Still Free

A Tampa man, accused of stealing three TVs, was charged with grand theft. Authorities say he had an accomplice who's still on the loose.

WIMAUMA, FL — Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies arrested one of two men suspected of grand theft Tuesday, Jan. 22, according to a release from the office. Jerry Garrett, 28, was arrested and charged with three counts of third degree grand theft and possession of marijuana.

Police say that on Jan. 22, just before 7 p.m., Garrett and another walked into the Walmart at 4928 Hwy 674 in Wimauma. The duo is accused of stealing three flat screen TV's totaling $1,221.82.

Garrett, of Tampa, was taken in on Friday, Jan. 25, according to sheriff's office records. He was released the next day on surety bond.

The other suspect is described as a thin black male, between 25 and 30 years old with a goatee. He was last seen wearing jeans, a white T-shirt, a blue and white jean jacket and a Tampa Bay Rays baseball hat, police say.

The sheriff's office says they rented a silver Hyundai Sonata from Starcar Rent-a-Car with the Florida plate number KMDP79.

Anybody with information on the second suspect is asked to call the sheriff's office at 813-247-8200. Crime Stoppers, at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477), is offering rewards for information leading to an arrest. If you want to stay anonymous, you can go to the Crime Stoppers Tampa Bay website.
