Apollo Beach Nature Preserve to Close for Restoration

Work on the shoreline starting April 11 will close park until mid-June.

APOLLO BEACH, FL – The Hillsborough County Conservation & Environmental Lands Management will close the Apollo Beach Nature Preserve on Monday, April 11 during the second phase of the Apollo Beach shoreline restoration project.

The park is closing to protect public safety and to allow heavy equipment to be used safely. The preserve is expected to reopen by June 21.

The Apollo Beach Waterway Improvement Group is partnering with Hillsborough County to mitigate erosion at the Apollo Beach Nature Preserve. As part of the project, eight lime rock breakwaters have been installed to reduce wave energy, minimize erosion and reduce the amount of sediment washing into the boat channel. The project also includes a living shoreline, a designated area for beach fill and dune restoration.
