Public Meeting Set to Discuss Alafia River Ridge Project

The Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department has scheduled a public meeting on Tuesday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss a project to install fire hydrants in the Alafia River Ridge area and construct approximately three miles of new water lines to support firefighting capabilities.

The meeting will take place at the Riverview Civic Center, 11020 Park Dr., Riverview.

The $1.8 million project will install 56 new hydrants along Valrie Lane north of McMullen Road, as well as on Potts, Winn and Monette roads west of Valrie. Approximately 18,200 feet of new 6-inch, 8-inch and 12-inch water pipeline will be constructed to support the new hydrants.

Construction is scheduled to get under way in late June, and is expected to be completed by February 2014.

The Alafia River Ridge project is part of a multi-year program to improve fire protection in older neighborhoods that don’t have enough fire hydrants by today’s development codes. The program is being funded through the Water Enterprise Capital Improvement Program.
