Girl Scout Troop 33543 Carries Forward Gold Award Project to Help Pets

Inspired by Laila's Gold Award initiative, Troop 33543 assembles pet disaster kits for the Humane Society—just in time for hurricane season.

Thank you to everyone who supported Laila’s Gold Award project last year—it was a tremendous success. Now, Junior Troop 33543, led by Erica Clough, is proudly continuing Laila’s mission by creating more pet emergency kits to donate to the Humane Society.
The troop has created an Amazon Wishlist to collect the supplies needed for the kits. They will be assembling and delivering the bags by the end of May, just in time for the start of hurricane season. These kits are designed to help pet owners safely evacuate with their animals during natural disasters.

This initiative not only teaches younger Girl Scouts the importance of community service but also continues the legacy of a meaningful project started by a fellow scout.
Thank you for your support!

Background on the Gold Award Project

This ongoing project was inspired by Laila of Troop 716, a Girl Scout Ambassador who has served for 13 years and recently earned the Gold Award—the highest honor in Girl Scouting.
Laila partnered with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to create Disaster Kits for cats and dogs, particularly aimed at helping elderly or low-income pet owners. Each kit includes a Pet Disaster Preparedness Guide, food and water bowls, pet food, water bottles, a first aid kit, a leash or collar, toys, and a checklist to help pet owners prepare for emergencies like hurricanes or floods.
Fossil Valley and the local Girl Scout community proudly congratulate Laila on completing her Gold Award. Last year she bridged from Ambassador to Adult, this year, her Gold Award project lives on with a younger troop taking the lead.
