Instead, the Osceola Kowboys came out ahead, 21-18, but not before sweating it out for the first two quarters, when Newsome led 10-7 going into the third quarter.

The Wolves held Osceola scoreless in both the first and fourth quarters, and vice versa. It was the Kowboys' second touchdown in the third quarter that sealed the Wolves' fate.

The game was as hard-fought as it was hard-lost.

Noting that the Wolves "had done what few thought possible" — reaching the Class 7A-Region 2 final after starting the season 0-3 — TBO.com reporter Scott Purks added that the Wolves "also had fought like crazy in their final game, almost pulling off another relative miracle."

Reporting for the Tampa Bay Times, J.C. Carnahan noted that "there was hardly a dry eye in the post-game huddle," following "the biggest play of the night" that saw "Osceola’s Davante Small burst though the middle of the defense for a 69-yard touchdown run." The play reportedly came with eight minutes left to play, making it Wolves down, 21-10.
