When deputies approached the vehicle and made contact with the suspect, he turned on the ignition and sped his vehicle into traffic on Bloomingdale Avenue, according to a news release.
Scott crashed into a silver minivan that passed by, investigators said.
As some deputies assisted the injured minivan driver, other deputies talked to Scott, who refused to get out of his pickup truck.
Scott was told repeatedly to show his hands, detectives said.
Deputies said he mentioned multiple times that he had a gun.
Scott ignored demands to show his hands and reached for a gun, and four deputies shot him, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Scott was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he died from his injuries. No deputies were injured during the incident. The citizen in the passing minivan was also transported to the hospital for complaints of chest pain following the accident.

The deputies involved in the shooting are Sergeant Michael Hannaford (18 years with HCSO), Corporal Steven Schneider (11 years with HCSO), Deputy Timothy Miskell (5 years with HCSO), and Deputy Devin Wooden (15 years with HCSO). As a protocol, all four deputies have been placed on administrative leave during this investigation, and the investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
"These deputies did a textbook job of trying to get this suspect to surrender himself. They pleaded with him to show his hands, stopping short of begging him not to reach for the firearm he repeatedly said he had," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "There is no perfect outcome in situations like this, but I am thankful that none of our deputies were hurt and that we were able to keep innocent citizens on the roadway safe as this situation unfolded. In the interest of openness and transparency, we are working with the FDLE as they conduct an independent investigation into this incident."
