Too Many Paws, Not Enough Homes

Local Girl Scout Launches Gold Award Project to Promote Responsible Pet Ownership

TAMPA, FL – July 26, 2025Senior Girl Scout Andrea Agront of Troop 33101 has earned the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award for her project, “Too Many Paws, Not Enough Homes”, which tackles pet overpopulation and promotes responsible pet care through education and outreach.

Recognizing the growing number of animals surrendered each year, Andrea created a digital Pet Owner’s Guide aimed at new and prospective pet owners. The guide offers essential tips on adoption, care, training, and safety—empowering the community to make thoughtful decisions and give pets the loving homes they deserve.

“Even though I can’t have pets of my own, I’ve always been surrounded by animals through my family and my Girl Scout troop,” said Andrea. “I wanted to do something that would really help animals—and help the people who care for them.”
