1,671 More Coronavirus Cases In Florida; Schools To Reopen
Florida health officials reported a one-day jump of 1,698 more coronavirus cases on Thursday.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported a one-day jump of 1,698 more coronavirus cases in Florida on the same day Gov. Ron DeSantis announced he will reopen schools this fall.
Seventeen Florida counties reported 47 new deaths Thursday compared to 36 on Wednesday, 54 new deaths Tuesday, 12 on Monday, 12 new deaths on Sunday, 28 on Saturday, 53 new deaths Friday and 42 new deaths last Thursday.
State health officials also reported 226 new hospitalizations over the previous 24-hour period.

The total number of cases in Florida climbed to 69,069 from 67,371 cases a day earlier. The state's death toll rose to 2,848 from 2,801 a day earlier.
Miami-Dade reported 14 new deaths on Thursday. Palm Beach County reported 10 new deaths. Broward County reported two new deaths.

Collier County reported two new deaths as did Desoto County, Duval County, Hillsborough County, Lee County, Manatee County, Polk County and St. Lucie County.
Alachua County reported one new death as did Dixie County, Escambia County, Martin County, Pinellas County and Sarasota County.
Miami-Dade reported 20,548 cases of the virus Thursday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 8,337 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 7,887 cases.
Florida had a 5.3 percent positive test rate for the virus based on a total of 1,307,728 tests that had been administered as of Thursday. The number of hospitalizations in Florida increased to 11,571 from 11,345 a day earlier.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 3,174 cases. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 2,678 cases.
