1. It's fine to party tonight like it's 2012, but plan on a designated driver or getting a tow if you plan to drink. Stay safe and allow others to travel safely as well.

2. To help those who have made that old familiar New Year Resolution about losing weight, or eating healtheir or getting in shape, Weight Watchers, 4517 14th St W., has decided to extend its hours to 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first day of the year.

3. Manatee County Animal Services is hoping to get homes for the dogs and cats who spent Tahnksgiving, Christmas and the New Year at the shelter. Animal Service is adoption special. The pay what you want price, must include $10 for the Manatee County license fee.

4. Want to volunteer in 2012 and make a huge difference in a child's life? in Manatee County will hold a "Meet and Greet" session at the Lakewood Ranch Starbucks, on Main St in Lakewood Ranch, Tuesday from 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.

5. The Historical Resources department of the Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court’s office is looking for judges for its Annual Manatee County History Fair. The office has sponsored the history fair for for 28 years and has had great success because area citizens recognize the value of history education and endorse the effort by volunteering to judge at the fair or sponsor a student award. Manatee County public, private and home school students in grades 6 through 12 participate in the history fair. Volunteers are needed to evaluate exhibits, media and performances. Volunteer judges see students' impressive and creative accomplishments. Training will be held at Manatee Village Historical Park, 1404 Manatee Avenue East, on January 25 or 28. If you would like to help judge this competition contact Melissa Porter, Education Coordinator, at Manatee Village Historical Park, at (941) 741-4075 or melissa.porter@manateeclerk.com. Guidelines are available upon request for any individual or group that would like to contribute financially by becoming a Friend of History Fair or sponsoring various awards.
