5 Things You Need To Know Today: December 29

Free Zumba just in time for those resolutions, free spay or neuter for some Bradenton cats continues and welcome in the New Year in downtown Bradenton.

1. Is your wallet the only thing left thin from all of those holiday indulgences? Trinity Lutheran Church, 2200 26th St. W., offers free Zumba every Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

2. The Humane Society of Manatee County has extended free spay and neuter services for cats in the 34205 and 34207 zip codes. The agency is also offering a free nail trim while cats are in for their surgeries. To make an appointment for your cat or kitten, call 941-747-8808 ext 302.

3. Downtown Bradenton will host a huge New Year's Eve party this weekend. Watch the ball drop on Old Main Street as you help ring in the New Year.

4. The Manatee Players will hold auditions Jan. 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. for the musicals Ring of Fire: The Music Of Johnny Cash and Seven Bride For Seven Brothers. The auditions are at the Manatee Players, 102 Old Main Street. Performance dates for Ring of Fire are March 29 through April 15 and performances for Seven Brides For Seven Brothers are May 3 through 20.  Auditions are first come, first served. Arrive at the auditions with sheet music in correct key or with a CD track. Candidates may be asked to stay to dance or read from a script. There are no roles for children in either of these shows.

5. Bradenton has a winner in the Patch Deck the House contest. Vote on your favorite town winner but remember if Bruce Rapchak of Bradenton wins the most votes, the Manatee County schools will get $100,000.
