5 Things You Need To Know Today: January 13
It's Friday and that means an Academy Award winning film will be screened at Bishop Planetarium, Manatee County has a no-kill booth at the fair and part of Virginia Avenue set to close Monday for Wares Creek dredging.

1. The Manatee Chamber of Commerce Coffee Club will meet this morning at 7:30 a.m. at the Manatee County Fairgrounds. Get a sneak peek of some of the exhibits, along with cinnamon buns, all while you network.
2. The continues its salute to Hollywood’s biggest successes as it features Academy Award Best Picture winners from the past 80 years during its Film Fridays series. Tonight's feature is the Casablanca, the classic war time fim featuring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart. The new Film Fridays series will run most Friday evenings through March 16. Screenings are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in the South Florida Museum’s all-digital Bishop Planetarium Theater located at 201 10th Street W. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and guests are welcome to enjoy a selection of beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks available for purchase prior to and during the screening. Tickets are $5 per person for general admission with discounted rates of $3 per person for Museum Members. 3. Everyone knows that the Manatee County Fair features blue ribbons for cows and pigs. But this year's fair will include a booth showing off animals up for adoption. The county will feature photos of adoptable dogs and cats from its "Picture Me Adopted" program, said Sue Kolze, Vice President of the Animal Network, Inc. The NO-KILL MANATEE booth will be at Building E, First Manatee Bank Exhibit during fair hours. No kill t-shirts will be on sale for $9 and bumper stickers for $1.

4. Check out Realize Bradenton's blog site featuring a community service blog by Jameson Taillon, a right handed pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.
5. A section of the northbound lane of Virginia Avenue will close between 7th and 9th Avenues West beginning Monday. It will remain closed through Feb. 25 while the Ware’s Creek dredging project is underway in that area.
