The 2,000-year-old Japanese art form, initially practiced as meditation, primarily features black ink using manipulation of values. Color was introduced by many artists in later years. Wu-Wei, or the use of white or blank space with the black ink, provides balance in the art.
The “Off the Wall” exhibit, set to take place in the Kellogg and Reid Hodges galleries, will feature the all-media work of local artists. The show will feature painting, sculpture, pottery, mixed media and jewelry.
In its 80th year, ArtCenter Manatee houses art, art education and gifts in a nearly 10,000 square foot building with three galleries, five classrooms, the Artists’ Market gift shop and an art library featuring more than 3,000 volumes.
