Bradenton Boy, 3, Found Shot in Knee

Deputies say the boy was found outside his home Monday night suffering from a gunshot wound and with a gun lying next to him.

A Bradenton 3-year-old who was found shot in the knee Monday night is still hospitalized but .

The investigation is still ongoing and no one has been charged as of Monday morning, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

The boy remains at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Updated, 9:25 a.m.:

The child was taken to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg and is expected to fully recover, Manatee County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Dave Bristow said Tuesday morning.

"It’s unknown at this time whether the gun shot was self inflicted and where the gun came from," Bristow said in an email to media.

Detectives and child protection officials continue to investigate.

A Bradenton 3-year-old was found shot in the knee outside his home late Monday night, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

Deputies say the boy's mother and five other people were inside the residence in the 600 block of 61st Avenue East around 11:30 p.m. Monday night when they heard a gunshot nearby.

They walked out front to find the boy lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his knee and with a gun located next to him, according to a sheriff's office spokesperson.

Emergency personnel were contacted, and the boy was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital. His condition was not known.

Detectives from the sheriff's Crimes Against Children unit were on scene conducting the investigation, authorities said early Tuesday morning.
