Drunk Driver Did Burnout At Downtown Bradenton Intersection ‘To Impress Girls’: Police

A driver did a burnout at a downtown Bradenton intersection "to impress girls" after nearly running over officers, pedestrians, police said.

BRADENTON, FL — A driver accused of driving under the influence was arrested early Sunday morning after doing a burnout at an intersection, Bradenton police wrote in a Facebook post. (Watch a video of the incident below.)

Officers patrolling 12th Street in downtown Bradenton heard a vehicle rev its engine and saw a silver pickup truck driver barreling south on the road around 2 a.m.

The driver, later identified as Juan Leon, 28, swerved, avoiding the officers and pedestrians, but encountered a red light at Manatee Avenue.

That's when Leon did a burnout, "to impress girls," he later told officers.

He was arrested on several charges, including DUI, reckless driving and aggravated assault for nearly hitting several people.

Because of damage he did to the crosswalk, Leon also faces a criminal mischief charge, police said.
