Tow Truck Driver Killed in I-75 Crash Identified
Breaking: A Lakewood Ranch man has been charged with DUI following a fatal Sunday morning crash on Interstate 75.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A 44-year-old Lakewood Ranch man faces DUI manslaughter and DUI property damage charges following a fatal crash on Interstate 75 in the Big Bend Road area Sunday morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers stopped three vehicles whose drivers were racing on I-75 south of Big Bend Road around 3:30 a.m. Oct. 9. All three vehicles were stopped and tow trucks were on the scene to load them around 4:16 a.m.
At that time, troopers say a southbound Honda pickup failed to move over for patrol cars and tow trucks that were located on the outside shoulder of the road.

“The Honda pickup departed the travel lane and collided with a tow truck driver standing outside of the third and final vehicle to be loaded, then collided with the tow truck itself,” an email from Sgt. Steve Gaskins said.
The driver of the Sunpoint Towing tow truck died at the scene, Gaskins said. He has been identified as Troy Maquire, according to the patrol.

The driver of the Honda pickup, Gregory Peter Miller was charged in the crash.
The crash closed southbound I-75 for several hours Sunday morning.
