FL Coronavirus Update: 4,858 new cases, Child Dies Of Virus
FL health officials released a report saying a 6-year-old Hillsborough girl was the youngest person in the state to die of the coronavirus.
TALLAHASSEE, FL — State health officials reported 4,858 new cases of the coronavirus Friday as state health officials released a report showing that a 6-year-old Hillsborough County girl became the youngest person in the state to die from the illness.
Health officials did not release the name of the child but reported a total of eight deaths of children with the coronivius. All of the deaths were counted in state data reported between June 19 and Aug. 17.
The other deaths of children in the state include an 11-year-old boy in Miami-Dade, a 16-year-old girl in Miami-Dade, an 11-year-old girl in Broward, a 16-year-old girl in Lee County, a 17-year-old boy in Manatee County, a 17-year-old boy in Pasco County and a 9-year-old girl in Putnam County.

The total number of deaths in Florida climbed to 10,168 Friday, up from 9,758 a day earlier. Florida's most recent one-day record of 276 reported deaths was set on Aug. 11. Health officials reported another 136 deaths involving non-Florida residents who died in Florida.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Florida rose to 593,286 on Friday, up from 588,602 a day earlier.

Friday marked the ninth straight day Florida experienced a daily positivity rate below 10 percent, according to health officials.
Despite the apparent decline in new cases, Florida's overall positivity rate continues to tick upward, according to data provided by the Florida Department of Health. The overall positivity rate was at 13.6 percent Friday based on 4,373,944 total tests.
Twenty-seven of Florida's 67 counties reported 122 new deaths on Friday (health officials reported 119) while Clay County reported two fewer deaths. Orange County reported one fewer death.
Friday's total compares with 118 new deaths Thursday (health officials reported 117), 174 new deaths Wednesday, 219 new deaths Tuesday, 87 new deaths Monday (health officials reported 89 deaths), 107 new deaths Sunday, 205 new deaths Saturday (state health officials reported 204) and 228 new deaths last Friday.

- Duval County reported three new deaths.
- Highlands County reported three new deaths.
- Indian River County reported three new deaths.
- Martin County reported three new deaths.
- Okaloosa County reported three new deaths.
- Polk County reported three new deaths.
- Suwannee County reported three new deaths.
- Brevard County reported two new deaths.
- Jackson County reported two new deaths.
- Pasco County reported two new deaths.
- Putnam County reported two new deaths.
- Volusia counties County reported two new deaths.
- Osceola County reported one new death.
- Charlotte County reported one new death.
- Collier County reported one new death.
- Escambia County reported one new death.
- Leon County reported one new death.
- Manatee County reported one new death.
- Nassau County reported one new death.
- St. Johns County reported one new death.
The state reported 35,650 hospitalizations, up from 35,200 a day earlier. That represents an increase of 450 new hospitalizations over the previous day.
State health officials reported a total of 4,942 current hospitalizations with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19 as of Friday, down from 5,340 a day earlier.

Miami-Dade, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, reported 150,305 cases of the virus as of Friday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 68,542 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes Palm Beach, West Palm and Boca Raton, reported 40,157 cases.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 35,293 cases. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 34,321 cases.
