Florida Coronavirus Update: 135 New Deaths, 3,169 New Cases
Florida health officials reported 135 new coronavirus deaths Thursday along with 3,169 new cases of the virus.
TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported 135 new coronavirus deaths Thursday along with 3,169 new cases of the virus.
Thursday marked Florida's 15th straight day of positivity under 10 percent while officials reported a new statewide positive case total of 611,991 cases, up from 608,722 a day earlier.
Health officials said the daily positivity rate is calculated by taking the number of people who test PCR-or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive.

The total number of deaths in Florida rose to 10,868 on Thursday, up from 10,733 a day earlier. Florida's most recent one-day record of 276 reported deaths was set on Aug. 11. Health officials reported another 143 deaths involving non-Florida residents who died in Florida.

Florida's overall positivity rate was at 13.53 percent Thursday based on 4,524,203 total tests.
Thirty-four of Florida's 67 counties reported new deaths Thursday. That compares to 156 new deaths Wednesday (health officials reported 153), 183 new deaths Tuesday, 72 new deaths Monday, 52 new deaths on Sunday (health officials reported 51), 106 new deaths Saturday, 122 new deaths on Friday (health officials reported 119) and 118 new deaths last Thursday (health officials reported 117).

- Miami-Dade County reported 29 new deaths.
- Broward County reported nine new deaths.
- Palm Beach County reported 16 new deaths.
- Marion County reported nine new deaths.
- Sarasota County reported seven new deaths.
- Pinellas County reported six new deaths.
- Brevard County reported five new deaths.
- Indian River County reported five new deaths.
- Lee County reported five new deaths.
- Escambia County reported four new deaths.
- Orange County reported four new deaths.
- Duval County reported three new deaths.
- Highlands County reported three new deaths.
- Hillsborough County reported three new deaths.
- St. Lucie County reported three new deaths.
- Clay County reported two new deaths.
- Collier County reported two new deaths.
- Manatee County reported two new deaths.
- Polk County reported two new deaths.
- St. Johns County reported two new deaths.
- Bay, County reported one new death.
- Charlotte County reported one new death.
- Citrus County reported one new death.
- Columbia County reported one new death.
- Gulf County reported one new death.
- Holmes County reported one new death.
- Lake County reported one new death.
- Leon County reported one new death.
- Martin County reported one new death.
- Okeechobee County reported one new death.
- Pasco County reported one new death.
- Santa Rosa County reported one new death.

- Volusia County reported one new death.
The state reported 37,718 hospitalizations, up from 37,404 hospitalizations a day earlier. That represents an increase of 314 new hospitalizations over the previous day.
State health officials also reported a total of 4,289 current hospitalizations with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19 as of Thursday, a decline from 4,398 current hospitalizations a day earlier.

Miami-Dade, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, reported 154,757 cases of the virus as of Thursday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 70,147 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes Palm Beach, West Palm and Boca Raton, reported 41,195 cases.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 36,354 cases. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 35,245 cases.
